End of term assembly with Mrs Hinton

Friday, 18 December 2020

Mrs Hinton led our final assembly of the term and focused on the theme of light, as we prepare to celebrate the birth of the Jesus and get ready for him to come again.

It was lovely for Year 5 to join Mrs Hinton in the hall for assembly, while the rest of the school joined virtually.

We also watched and listened to Arch Bishop Bernard’s Christmas message to all of the schools in the Diocese. We were very thankful for his prayers and well wishes at Christmas.

Christmas Craft Year 3

Thursday, 17 December 2020

As an end to our RE learning this year, in preparation for Christmas, we learned about St. Francis of Assisi making the first crib for worship purposes. We made our own Christmas cribs in preparation for celebrating and worshipping on Christmas day just like St. Francis did.

Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed this craft and understood the importance of the traditional crib seen at Christmas time.

Who DO You Think You Are?

Tuesday, 8 December 2020

This week Year 4 looked at a country where some of our children are from: Pakistan! We shared some facts about Pakistan and then looked at some traditional food, drink, music and cultural practices. We then made our own Henna patterns on black card using oil pastels. They turned out so colorful and detailed!

The beginning of Advent

Friday, 4 December 2020

This week has been very special in school as Advent has begun! During virtual assemblies, lighting of the first Advent candle, R.E. lessons, class collective worship and a special virtual assembly along with the rest of the Diocese with Dan and Emily from One Life Music, we have thought carefully about how we can Stay Alert and Be Ready at this very special time.

Although Advent and Christmas will be very different this year, we have all adapted in school to ensure that this time in school is so very special. We have lots of plans ahead for how we can continue to prepare for to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and for when he comes again.

It was incredibly special and moving today to hear Dan and Emily sharing readings and singing to us – our children in school all loved to see and hear them again!

Year 5 are Coders!

Tuesday, 1 December 2020

Year 5 have been learning to code this week!

Using Purple Mash, we’ve been learning about what coding is and how it is used in our daily life – gaming, using the internet etc. We’ve begun to learn how to write simple lines of code to create our own game.

Here are a few pictures of the code one member of the class had written and the game they were working on (based on The Great Fire of London):
